Old Spice? Really?

My son (the eldest, 10 years old) came to me this morning and said, "Mom I need to get some Old Spice." My response as I raised my eyebrow, " Old Spice? For who?" Then my son with a DERRRR mom look on his face says, "For me, who do you think it's for????"

Now let me explain about Old Spice. My husband and I have a running joke about this, ever since we found out that someone close to us, (not naming any names) someone who you would not picture in a million years wearing Old Spice, wears Old Spice!

I don't have anything against this product, in fact quite the opposite. I have nothing but fond memories of Old Spice. You see first of all, my dad use to wear it! It was always the very first Christmas gift I would buy him ( well my mom would when I was too little) but as soon as I was old enough, I always made sure to get dad his Old Spice.

My Uncles used to wear Old Spice too, I remember every time we had a family get together, all you could smell was Old Spice!

So about the joke, my husband and I were having a get together and a family member, a young, hip, with it family member, was staying at our home so he wouldn't have to drive all the way home to get ready ( he lives pretty far) and then come back. So he was just getting ready at our house. Anyway, long story short, I smelt a familiar smell and said " what is that cologne you are wearing?"

"Old Spice" he says. Well my husband (of course) could not contain himself. I tried to hold in the laughter because I didn't want to make him feel bad.

"Dude, whats so funny?" He says to my husband. "I LOVE Old Spice! It rocks and the girls love the smell of it! I use Old spice everything! Body wash, deodorant, and spray!"

He thought we were out of our minds because we where making fun of Old Spice!

This brings me back to this morning with my son. "I thought you liked Axe ?" I asked him.

See for quite some time now, Axe has been the "cool" product of choice.

My son replies back to me, as he chuckles, "Mom everyone wears Old Spice!" Of course I had to say, "But I thought only Older people wore it, Grampy use to wear it!"

Then he goes on to ask me "Well if it is for old people, then why is there a huge muscle guy in the commercials?"

He's got a point!

So (against my husbands better judgement) I told him yes, he can get some Old Spice. I guess I am just not as cool as I thought I was. I better start keeping up with what's in and what's not!
