Never Judge a book by its' cover!
I learned a quick lesson recently about judging a book by its' cover! I am not usually a judgmental person when it comes to people or places or even things (for the most part). I just don't like to judge before I know about it. You never know, that person could be really great and turn out to be a life long friend. A place that doesn't look that nice, can turn out to be really beautiful, you could fall in love with it! Lastly, things, I mean like foods or objects or perfumes etc...don't judge before you try because you might actually love it!
This is usually how I live, except for one little part of my life. That part is the hair part! Now don't get me wrong, I don't judge people for how their hair is, although I have seen some hair in my hairdressing lifetime that I would love to get my hands on, in a good way of course.
But that's a whole different subject!
Back to what I was saying, I do find myself judging salons and the people that work in them. I hope this doesn't sound awful, and let me know if you agree. If I try a salon for the first time, I want a stylist that looks like she takes care of herself. If this person is a mess, wearing a ripped shirt and a pair of sweats that shows her thong, hair undone and no makeup, well honestly, what would you think? I know I wouldn't want her to call my name. I would want the stylist with the trendy hair and makeup that actually looks professional!
Am I alone on this one?
That is just how I feel. I don't know if its just because I am a stylist and would NEVER go to work looking like I just rolled out of bed? We are expected to look like professionals. This is an industry that people turn to us for the trends. They trust us to make them look and feel their best! If we don't do that for ourselves how can we do it for our clients?
Bad customer service is another pet peeve of mine! If you don't like people, the hair industry is the WRONG place for you! How would you feel if your stylist talked on their cell phone the whole time she/he cut your hair! On top of looking like a slob! I've seen it! It's awful!
So now that I am done with my rant, I will say that I found a little salon and I had an interview with them other day.
My very first impression was a few weeks ago when I went, on the recommendation of a friend, to get my hair done there. I walked in and I have to say I was a little nervous! I didn't see anyone that looked or acted as bad as the above reference, but there was definitely a few things that made me nervous. I was definitely judging while I was sitting there waiting to get my hair done.
As I was picking the place apart in my head, I realized what I was doing and said to myself, "Give it a chance, don't judge, your friend sent you here and you never know what you may find here!"
On that note, I stopped. Then over walked this cute, little, bubbly, stylish and very friendly woman. She was the owner and the one who was going to do my hair! I must say I was relieved!
After all that stressing and judging, I actually had the best salon experience that I have had since we moved six years ago!
I loved my hair and my salon visit ended in a way that I never would have thought.
I just went for an interview with this salon and I am going to start working there, part time!
Imagine that! Imagine if I had let my judgments get the best of me. Had I walked out before I got my hair done, I would have never found this great job and met these nice people!
Glad I stopped judging! So glad I didn't walk!
So now, I must say, lesson learned and I will never judge a book by its' cover again!
Love Much, Live Well,
Michelle xoxo

Congratualations! How exciting.
ReplyDeleteI had a hairdresser once whos shirt was too short and I spent the whole appointment staring at her exposed muffin top. It wasn't good.
