Are you a Good Mommy or a Bad Mommy?

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I am pretty lenient when it comes to music and my children. I just love music and feel that it is a great tool for self expression. Music is a HUGE part of my families life. You can walk into our house at any given time, you will most definitely hear music playing.

Growing up in my house, when I was a child, we loved music too. My dad always had the record player going. Every Saturday night we would have my aunt and uncle over and the music would be playing as everyone danced in the living room! Good times!

I cook to music, I clean to music, I even blog to music. I am sure you get the picture right?

I pretty much let the boys listen to any music on the radio. They know and love all kinds of music. Current and classic, even old school rap!

This is a good thing, they will be well rounded right????? Even if there are a few "bad words" in the song, so what! They are going to hear that language their whole lives. As long as they know, not to use those words themselves, that it is just in the song, that is actually ok with me! ( I know I'm not getting mother of the year after admitting that one!)

So listen to this, My youngest and I were driving in the car today and on comes Rhianna!
We LOVE Rhianna!

I was just driving and listening and all of the sudden, belting from the back seat.........

" I may be bad but I'm perfectly good at it, sex in the air I don't care I love the smell of it! Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me!" (for those of you who might not know, this is her newest song, with the title, S&M)

Picture my jaw dropping, with a dear in headlights look in the mirror, as I stare at him singing these words!

Now, I don't want to say anything to him because I am sure he doesn't even know what he is singing. But now the question is..... the older that the boys get, do I stop them from listening to certain things? Surely they will start asking questions about stuff soon. Am I a bad mom?

What do you guys think? I would love to hear some opinions on this subject. Fire away!

Oh yeah, and for the record, I do still love Rhianna and her music!

Love Much, Live Well,
Michelle xoxo

  1. I know exactly what song your are referring too and I don't let the kids listen to that one. My rule regarding music is if the song makes me feel uncomfortable when the kids are listening than it is not allowed. I tell them it's not an appropriate song and off it goes. That one is crazy!! I can just picture your little man belting that one out in the back seat and your jaw just hitting the floor!! Ha ha ha good times!
